Telefonica, which is a Brazil operator that will launch a prototype smartphone that runs using the Firefox OS. This prototype smartphone is developed with Qualcomm, which is one of Mozilla’s partners for this platform. From what we can see, this prototype looks similar to the Android operating system. The smartphone is equipped with four capacitive button and touchscreen to navigate. Information obtained from Telefonica, the Firefox OS can run on the same hardware as on Android phones.

Carlos Domingo, the innovation director of Telefonica said, Firefox OS is more power efficient and runs much lighter. If you compare Firefox OS with Android OS on the same hardware, Firefox OS  is better. Firefox OS is able to run faster because the platform is based on HTML5. 75% of applications on Apple AppStore and Google Play is made from HTML5, which means it is very easy for this applications to be ported into Firefox OS. Firefox OS is said to be lighter and do not require high processor capabilities. That means, Firefox OS gives nearly the same experience with Android, but with a cheaper price.
